Founded in San Francisco in 1984, Zebra Tattoo & Body Piercing has grown from a small punk-rock boutique into one of the Bay Area’s most trusted tattoo and piercing studios. Created by Moe and Siobhan Delfani, the shop — originally called Broadway’s Rock — started by serving the city’s music and art scene with leather and metal accessories before evolving into a full-service tattoo and piercing destination.
Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Zebra continues to be a family-owned and operated business dedicated to inclusivity, creativity, and professionalism. “You’ll see everyone here,” says general manager Sean Delfani, Moe and Siobhan’s son. “From moms bringing in their kids for first piercings to seniors celebrating their 100th birthday with a tattoo.”
After relocating to Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley in 1993, Zebra became a cornerstone of East Bay counterculture. In 2008, the Delfani family expanded with a second location in downtown Walnut Creek, offering a safe, welcoming, and state-of-the-art space for tattoos and body piercings.
Sean, who previously worked in luxury hospitality with the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, returned to carry on his family’s legacy when his father considered retirement. “Running Zebra isn’t so different from hospitality,” he says. “It’s about emotion, experience, and energy — being part of someone’s story. Every day, we guide people through moments that stay with them forever.”
For four decades, Zebra has helped hundreds of thousands of clients express themselves through body art. Whether you’re visiting our Berkeley tattoo shop or our Walnut Creek piercing studio, Zebra continues to stand for artistry, family, and fearless self-expression.
